WELL-ASIA investigates the pursuit of wellness in Southeast Asia, examining new transnational mobilities, encounters and inequalities in a growing industry.
WELL-Asia investigates how the wellness industry in Southeast Asia really works. We uncover the hidden inequalities and cultural tensions that lie behind promises of wellbeing.

WELL-ASIA explores the rise of the commercial wellness industry in Southeast Asia . Focusing on Singapore, Chiang Mai, and Ubud, this ethnographic project examines how global ideas of wellness are locally reshaped—highlighting both the creative possibilities generated in the pursuit of wellness and the often unseen social, economic and cultural implications on local economies, mobilities and livelihoods. Our project is funded by the European Research Council and hosted at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in Maastricht University.
